Doug and Cheryl Conrad ’Äì Christopher, Benjamin and Ohka

Doug grew up in Japan as a missionary kid with the EFCA-IM. He and Cheryl met at Bethel College. After they were married they moved to Colorado, where Doug finished his schooling. They then returned to Minnesota and began ministry at Stillwater EFC in music, children's ministry and small groups. In 1991 they committed to a one year position in Sendai, Japan. Cheryl taught at the international school and Doug worked at the Sendai EFC, a church planted by his parents. After this first year in Japan, both Cheryl and Doug felt the need to return to Japan for a longer period-a total of 6 years in the 90s. During their time in Sendai, Christopher and Benjamin were adopted. As the boys were young, Doug and Cheryl decided to move back to Minnesota for a time in 1999 to be with relatives and for Doug to get further experience as an associate pastor.

The Conrads have been doing church planting in Fukuoka, Japan since 2004. First they assisted Pastor Miyauchi at the Imajuku EFC as the church grew. He has now been call as their full time pastor. In November 2006 Doug and Cheryl started a new work called the Meinohama Christian Center. The first couple months, the focus was on gathering people in the community through English classes and outreach events. In April 2007 an English service was added to the schedule to meet the needs of the international community, including a number of foreighners married to Japanese. This service also attracted some Japanese that wanted to meet foreighners and speak English. The following April we started a Japanese service. Besides these two services they have Bible studies, English Classes, Kid's Clubs, baking classes and other outreach events. The Conrads have also adopted a Japanese girl, Ohka.
